Our strategy’s Powering Lives pillar includes a goal of providing reliable power to 100 million people in Africa and Asia by 2030. Shell’s energy access team is working to create a commercial power business at scale in emerging markets in Africa and Asia, investing in all sorts of on-grid and off-grid power.

What role do you play?

As an Investment Manager at SPDC with experience in challenging markets, you can make an impact by helping Shell expand its power business in Africa. Shell’s energy access team invests in off-grid and on-grid power solutions, such as solar home system and mini-grid companies, utility partnerships, larger-scale generation projects, and power solutions for commercial and industrial customers that help these customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

What is the task?

Your Additional Responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to business development operations in Nigeria and West Africa’s national and regional power markets.
  • Contribute to the execution of commercial power and energy access deals in firms, joint ventures, and projects across the power sector spectrum (off-grid/mini-grid/on-grid distribution, generation, and integrated power solutions) and across technologies.
  • Conduct due diligence, financial modeling, and transaction structuring, as well as participate in talks until the deal is closed.
  • In accordance with applicable rules and procedures, contribute to internal review and approval processes.
  • Be in charge of the continuing management of individual investments’ portfolios.
  • Bring experience of the power sector to Shell’s power business in Nigeria and West Africa, perform market research, and identify trends and growth prospects.
  • Establish and manage collaborations with business, financial, and governmental players.
  • Act as a shareholder representation or support for performance excellence and enhanced value generation by participating in the governance of portfolio firms, joint ventures, and/or acquisitions (where applicable).
  • Across the Shell Group, collaborate with internal partners on project creation, partnerships, transaction execution, portfolio governance, finance, HSSE, and other topics.
  • Participate in the development of operational plans, performance evaluations, and strategy revisions.

The position necessitates:

  • An unwavering emphasis on the external market and what it takes to succeed.
  • Strong attention on delivery and the capacity to deliver under duress.
  • High capacity and self-sufficiency, as well as the ability to recognize when assistance is required.
  • Organized, with the ability to prioritize time and opportunity for maximum impact.
  • Ability to function in a business environment that is always changing and uncertain.
