McCall MacBain Scholarships for International Students


Applicaltion is open for the McCall MacBain Scholarships. The McCall MacBain Fellowship is a full graduate scholarship that provides students with mentorship, interdisciplinary study, and a worldwide network to help them accelerate their global impact. 

McCall MacBain Scholarships at McGill is situated on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange among Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations.

About the program

The McCall MacBain Scholarships are about a lot more than just money. This program brings together a varied group of scholars who seek to lead with purpose, individuals who have exhibited leadership potential and a strong desire to make a good difference in the lives of others. 

While you and your fellow scholars will work on a variety of issues in many sectors, you have a vision for the type of leaders you want to be: leaders who serve others with integrity and humility, who are devoted to lifelong learning and bridge-building, and who take bold, meaningful risks.

Scholarship benefits

The McCall MacBain Scholarship covers tuition and fees for an appropriate master’s program or second-entry professional undergraduate program at McGill, as well as a monthly living allowance of $2,000 CAD. 

Up to 20 full scholarships will be awarded each year across Canada. Close to 60 other awards of $5,000 or $10,000 each.

Eligibility 

Candidates must complete the following program eligibility conditions to be considered for the McGill University McCall MacBain Scholarships (full and partial scholarships): 

  • Applicants must be students from either the United States or another country. 
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree or are on pace to complete one by the application deadline. 
  • Candidates must have completed high school. 
  • You are a Canadian citizen, have permanent residency in Canada, or are a refugee in Canada. 
  • Applicants may not be awarded more than one scholarship at a time. 
  • Applicants must meet the university’s English language requirement.

The following are required for the McGill University McCall MacBain Scholarships. 

  • Bachelor’s degree, or are on track to graduate before the time of application
  • One-page resume/CV
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions
  • 2 reference letters
  • A valid International passport

  • Application portal for McCall MacBain Scholarships for 2022 opens in June 2022 and closes on September 21, 2022. 
  • The Regional interview begins in November 2022 and by March 2023 the Final interviews must take place. 
  • February – September 2023 (Varying timeline: Confirmation of acceptance to an eligible program at McGill)
  • September 2023 Scholars arrive on campus at McGill

Note: 

Please note that the McCall MacBain Scholarship is conditional on acceptance into an approved master’s or professional degree program at McGill University in the summer or fall of 2023. McGill requires students to apply for admission separately. They will usually apply to McGill after applying for the McCall MacBain Scholarships, but before the final interviews in early 2023.

Application process/ How to Apply 

Here are the application process and how you can apply. 

Create application in online portal

Visit the McCall MacBain website to view the online application portal and initiate an application. We encourage applicants to create an application early on to avoid any unforeseeable issues. The application portal will open in June every year. Set a reminder here

Select and contact two referees

Applicants must select two referees to write letters of recommendation. The following are required:

  • An academic reference;
  • And a community reference.

Applicants must inform their references of the submission guidelines and deadline. Referees must submit their letters by the application deadline, which is normally in September, using the McCall MacBain online application site. 

A professional reference can be presented in place of an academic reference for business programs (e.g. MBA, MM).

Obtain transcripts

Applicants are permitted to upload unofficial transcripts. 

Submit application materials

Applicants must submit their application materials through the McCall MacBain online application portal by the application deadline in September. Applicants must click “finalize” in the application portal in order to submit.

The comprehensive online application is comprised of the following:

  • short essays
  • One-page resume
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions
  • 2 reference letters.

What are the graduate programs covered by this scholarship? 

At McGill’s downtown and Macdonald campuses, the McCall MacBain Scholarship supports approximately 150 master’s programs and three second-entry professional undergraduate programs.

Is there an age requirement?

No

Can I apply if I am a part-time student?

Yes, but you must apply for a full-time eligible graduate program at McGill. Award recipients must pursue their studies full-time

I’m currently enrolled in a graduate program; can I apply? 

If you are already enrolled in a graduate program but plan to begin a new qualifying graduate program the following year, you may apply. This award is available to students who plan to begin an appropriate graduate program the following year.
