About the program
The Rhodes Trust founded the scholarships in 1902, in accordance with Cecil John Rhodes’ sixth and final testament, dated July 1, 1899, and supplemented by multiple codicils through March 1902.
Moreover, the scholarships were established for two reasons: to foster British imperial unity and to develop diplomatic ties between the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The Rhodes Trust, based at Rhodes House in Oxford, is in charge of administering and awarding the Rhodes Scholarships.
The Rhodes Scholarship pays for tuition at Oxford University as well as an annual stipend. The stipend for the 2021/22 academic year is £17,310 per year (£1,442.50 per month), from which Scholars must cover all living expenses, including housing.
This is not sufficient to cover partners or dependents.
Applicants must be admitted to the University of Oxford to be eligible for the Rhodes Scholarship. Aside from that, applicants must meet the following qualifying requirements:
Citizens of a Rhodes eligible country such as Nigeria, Australia, Germany, Singapore, etc.
Completed education from your home country for at least 4 years in the last 10 years.
For example, Nigeria applicants could have completed their undergraduate and obtained bachelor’s degree with first class honors at any accredited Nigerian university.
Applicants must be between the age group of 19 to 27 years, at the time of the scholarship application.
Completed or will complete the undergraduate degree with first class.
However, candidates that fulfills these eligibility requirements will be considered for the Rhodes Scholarship.

- Personal statement (SOP) of 1000 words focusing on why an applicant deserves the scholarship.
